| YSR shock deaths are bogus: Senior Congress leader |
A senior Congress leader in Andhra Pradesh has termed as 'bogus' the shock deaths of 600 people following the demise of chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in a helicopter crash early this month. Giving a bitter twist to the war of words with the loyalists of the late chief minister, who was known as YSR, Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao said the shock deaths were a publicity stunt.YSR's chopper pilots served M.P. CM too!Rao, who is opposing the campaign for making YSR's son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy the next chief minister, alleged that Jagan's supporters were trying to blackmail the party's central leadership through claims of shock deaths. The war of words between the senior leader and Jagan's camp came into the open during a television debate Tuesday night. 'These are all bogus and a publicity stunt. They have included even routine deaths and suicides in their account,' Rao said after senior state minister and YSR loyalist N. Raghuveera Reddy claimed that 600 people either died of shock or committed suicide after hearing the news of YSR's death.Who will be YSR's successor? The suspense continues'Was he (YSR) more popular than Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi,' asked Rao, who has already received threatening calls from alleged supporters of Jagan for stating that K. Rosaiah will continue as the chief minister till 2014.Agriculture Minister Raghuveera Reddy reacted strongly to Rao's comments and said he was insulting the feelings of the people.'It is not just the majority of Congress leaders but also leaders from other parties and a majority of the eight crore people of the state who want to see Jagan as the next chief minister,' he said, clarifying that he would abide by the decision of the central leadership on the issue. |

| State to convert part of Nallamala forest land into YSR memorial |
In a controversial move, the Andhra Pradesh cabinet on Thursday cleared a proposal for conversion of 1,412 hectare Nallamala reserve forest area into a memorial park in memory of late Chief Minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. Dr Rajasekhara Reddy was killed in a helicopter crash on September 2 at Pavurallagutta inside the dense Nallamala forest in Kurnool district. The state cabinet, which met here on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, cleared the proposal to develop the YSR Smriti Vanam at Nallakalva village at a cost of Rs 3.15 crore. "It will be an unique monument in memory of the late Chief Minister. A memorial stupa will be built at the entrance of the proposed project while a 4.5-km trekking path will be built upto Pavuralagutta, the exact site of the Bell-430 crash," said J. Geeta Reddy, the state information minister, after the cabinet meeting. The Nallamala reserve forest houses Rajiv Gandhi Tiger Reserve besides some other sanctuaries and the move to build a memorial for YSR in the forest is facing opposition from environmentalists. Responding to queries on concerns being raised by environmentalists over the proposed memorial in a reserve forest, Ms Geeta Reddy said the forest department would look into the issue and obtain necessary clearances from Union Ministry of Environment and Forests. |

| Full-time politics for Jagan |
The Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, will become a “full-fledged politician” from October 2 and is now busy relieving himself of his various business responsibilities. He will visit Idupulapaya on the day to participate in a prayer meeting to mark the completion of one month of the death of his father Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and proceed to Kadapa to initiate the party membership drive.“He is also planning to shift his base to Hyderabad from Bengaluru,” said Mr Y.V. Subba Reddy, close relative of the YSR. The young MP currently has stakes in Sakshi Telugu daily, a TV channel, Bharati Cements in Kadapa district and a power project near Hassan in Karnataka.Sources said the task of transferring his business activities would take some time but Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy would plunge into politics totally before that. “He will be a full-fledged politician from October 2,” said Mr Subba Reddy. It is learnt that Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy, on shifting to Hyderabad, will start his political activity from his house in Sagar Society near Banjara Hills Road no 2.The late YSR lived in the house for a long time even as Chief Minister before moving to the government quarters in Begumpet. Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy is also planning to change his attire to assume the look of a serious politician. After the function in Idupulapaya, he is expected to stay in Kadapa for three or four days before coming to Hyderabad. Like his father, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy has also decided to follow a regular Hyderabad-Kadapa-Delhi tour circuit. He will also undertake a tour of the state to meet the kin of those who died of shock and committed suicide after the death of YSR. But he will do so only after informing the party high command and getting its consent. |
